The project
The „Emerhaya“ is losely based on my own concept with a steampunk touch and a lot of black humor. It‘s a story about first scientific institute of United Nations on another planet and an exchange project failing because of greed for technologies, conflicts of interest and general intolerance and xenophoby of the human. „Emerhaya linayaru“, „The distant star“ is an airship placed to the disposal for research flights by local military authorities and her captain is also a diplomatical supervisor of the scientific project.
I‘ve created it after I had got sick got and had to give up my graphic studio. It‘s never been planned as a graphic novel, but I‘m writing the story for my own fun and I‘m playing with visualisations of some sequences and scenes.

Preparations
Scribbles and designs (below)
Materials:
Anything and everything what can be creatively misused, both cheep and expensive. I had been using Canson paper for last 20 years, but I‘m trying out Arches 300g/qm now, for the first time by this project. Much better for my taste. The ink was bought thirty years ago during my study, the same the nib. I‘m having just one and I‘m to lazy to order more and newer. I use watercolors of talens but mainly russian „Leningrad“ bought also during my study. They are still on the market as „White nights“. However, regarding present political situation I‘m removing russian products from my workshop. My brushes are a red sable hand-made product of a german brushmaker. A cheap hairdryer is also a very useful tool, like a piece of common rinsing sponge and paper towel. Nothing extraordinary.
Influences:
Many. I'v been a big fan of the world of "The dark crystal" since my childhood. I know of course Loisel („Peter Pan“) and Bilal as well. But regarding bande dessinée, there is also less known story, "Le reseau bombyce" drawn by artist called Cecil. It‘s a dark sex and crime novel in the estetic of belle epoche and I think it influenced me most of all. Another sample is a very atmospheric, black-white-gray graphic novel „Cages“ by british artist Dave MacKean which impressed me once a lot. Regarding watercolor technique is german Illustrator Doris Eisenburger my absolute favortite. Some samples of the artists I named below.
About me:
I‘m not a comic artist and I‘m having no ambitions to become one. I‘m to old for this and I have no real inclination. As a child I actually wanted to become an illustrator, but after my study I had performed regular graphic jobs like logos and CI‘s, mainly for equestrian customers.
I‘m in this course more or less per accident. After a longer disease I decided to orientate myself professionally in wide parts new and therefore I revived my interests in areas of illustration, storyboarding and watercolor. Comic combines elements of screenplay and illustration so seeing a quality of the teacher's work I took a glimpse on the content.
Some my works in watercolor on the bottom of this page: a model study, a children illustration and an ordered painting.
Regarding drawing I'm presently terribly out of training and I'm aware of this fact.

@sergibleda Thank you for the kind words. I enjoyed your course a lot. But it's also been a lot of effort and I see things which could have been made better every time I look at the project.
To be honest, graphic novel has been in different moments of my life a reccuring theme. However, the self-confidence and the really good ideas I've been getting only in the past few years. A bit to late for intense drawing and scripting training, but still, I'm trying to capture ideas and to develope characters and visual and conceptual backgrounds of my stories in free moments. Just for fun
Regards
