I'm going to preface this by saying that I'm not sure my project counts exactly, because I didn't use the same abstraction mediums as the course.
I'm not a stranger to drawing portraits, but I struggle with using color, so this course looked like an interesting way to add some color elements to the kind of pieces I already do. I, uh, went overboard with the drawing part, and by the time I watched the abstraction video, I realized those mediums (paint, oil pastels) weren't something I wanted to experiment with on this particular portrait. Ideally, I should have done a simpler drawing with far more white space to allow room for the abstraction. I will likely experiment with those techniques on some of my older portraits where there's less consequence if I screw up.
For this one, I still wanted to add some mixed media, so I opted for some abstract foil leafing, which I applied to the finished drawing with a brush and clear glue. It was difficult take a proper photo of, but it sure is pretty.

Purely subjective comment, not a criticism: this particular drawing is so striking without the colour actually. Perhaps some watercolour near the outer edges that would still draw the eye to the beautiful arrangement of elements in the center? Beautiful work.

@likely_ann Thanks so much. I totally agree. I ended up adding some foil elements, which was fun, but to be honest I think it looked better without any color. Oh well.🤷 A learning experience for next time.
