Hi Sarah,
Ik kom ook uit Nederland 🇳🇱 ☺️. Jij bent mijn grootste inspiratie als het op kinderboeken illustrator aankomt! Hello everyone. First of all: I just started sketching, drawing, painting during the first lockdown. On Instagram (petraeunjoo) I always emphasize that I’m just an amateur and so I cannot except my work to be that good like the pro’s and self taught artists but with years of experience. That would not be fair to those who are eating, sleeping and breading art during their who lives while I’m just starting out. I like the courses but it is hard not to copy your style too much. It is difficult to ‘make it my own’ so unfortunately you don’t see ‘my style’ as I don’t have any. But what we can see of my sketches and paintings that they are chaotic and not neat and refined like yours despite trying to work with a limited color palette. Like you said there must be air and space in it and that’s what I’ve done leaving some areas just white. But there is something which makes it muddy and not pleasant to look at it although it is a cozy drawing. What do I do wrong? How can I improve? All constructive critics are welcome!

Professeur PlusHi Petra!
Your illustration looks great! and I don't think it looks muddy at all. it does look a bit dark, but that might be because of the quality of your paint or the lack of one bright colour.
Everyone has their own style. Just keep drawing without looking at other people's work to much, and you will find your own. But it's already inside you.
Just keep drawing without worrying to much about it!
