Thank you, Maddy, for the course. I started my art journey in may and began painting 3 months ago. I think landscape is still a tough subject but i learned quite a bit during my project.
It isn‘t perfect, but I‘m happy with it. When i sketched the scene, i thought about including a little boat on the water and even a hint of a crocodile lurking underwater… but these didnt make it into the final painting, haha.
My goals were: 1. achieving a depth of field, 2. showing the bright yet golden light of the late summer and 3. focus on the reflections at the surface of the water.

Professor Plus@simon_richard Wonderful work on your final project! Thank you for including your reference photo and your sketch and process pictures, I thoroughly enjoyed following through your journey on this painting.
I am stunned to hear you only began painting 3 months ago, as these are excellent results in that amount of time. I think you did a great job with your goals (creating depth and capturing the golden light of late summer.)
In my experience, it is extremely common for beginner painters to lean toward using too much bright/saturated color. I’m really impressed with your color mixing and how reserved your color choices are. Your muted palette gives a more ‘realistic’ look to the painting. I think the warmer colors really helped toward that late summer feeling you were going for, rather than choosing a more traditional bright green for the foliage. You already seem to understand that you don’t need to paint objects the color that they are in reality, but you need to paint them how they look in that lighting situation (which can give them a totally different color!)
I think with these kinds of sensibilities already in your mind, you have a great future ahead of you as a painter! 😊 I hope you enjoy your journey and have fun as you explore your taste and style with painting. Thank you so much for sharing your work with us!
