I think you've done a great job selecting your colors for this piece-- the background is the right tone for your subject, and making the eyes extra chromatic (and possibly glittery?) is a nice touch. It's definitely caricatured, with extra big eyes, extra pointy ears, and a very round belly-- but the impression feels very personal to the subject.
Next time, try to stick to bigger shapes-- I think the desire to sketch and render has taken over a bit here, as your marks are mostly thin and seem to be based in creating outlines. Try to put down only 2-3 very large areas of color, then break down those big shapes with medium shapes before adding any detail of anatomy. A skinny brush can be used at the very end, but try to see your reference image more graphically for the majority of the painting process. It can be hard to separate your subject into shapes when your subject is particularly familiar, so maybe give it a shot with an unfamiliar animal next!
Overall, this piece is very expressive and cohesive. A really great effort!
