Over the years I've probably done more Youth work than Design work - so this was my attempt at bringing those two things together.
I wanted to create a campaign that had impact and felt disruptive. The visuals work as a sucker punch to the content and language - leading the viewer in softly with bright colours, smiling faces and playful typography. Only to be confronted with the grim reality these Kids are facing everyday.
Visually, I was referencing the Tribeca Film Festival Identity, with it's repeated lettering and sense of energy. I also looked at the original Batman TV programme from the 1960's, with it's bold use of on-screen typography - Blam! Boff! Bam!
The tone and language was inspired by Johnson Banks work for Unicef and Yours Cambridge.
I repeated 'I wish' three times, as I like the way it read - like the Kid was really trying to make it happen, as an affirmation, with closed eyes and hands held together...
P.s Great course! 100% recommend.

Professor PlusNice work Mike, glad the course was useful! I like where this is going - I think if we were doing this together we might explore the switch from 'I wish' (ie the child's voice) to the objective, third person voice (part of me wonders if you couldn't bring the two closer - ie 'I wish I didn't have to spend so much time hiding in this cupboard;', etc) but I think is a really good piece of work and you could see this really working.
