Hey Dan and everyone here - thank you very much for this course. I am processing everything and will venture on new piece using this schematic method. The photos is not great - looks better in life. I will consider a self portrait. I am really interested to hear your thoughts. It's challenge but I did enjoy working on this - it funny how some really obvious elements appear quite late in - when you got far and then I realise the the eye needed to come down on the left - then fixed that and then other things appear and finally you're satisfied to a point. But I'm hoping the John H Vanderpoel planar archetype will help avoid get things right more speedily.
I rate this course as one of the very best on Domestika. I learnt more from watching Dan's tutorial about drawing practice than from any other module and numerous life classes. I would love to see more from Dan here and better yet attend a workshop in the US. Fareena's drawing follows Dan's so closely it looks amazing. Fareena has crafted a sketch using Dan's techniques and it shows both the value of the tuition and Fareena's innate artistic credentials too! More please!
@garyheiss1 That's really kind of you Gary. Thank you for your comment. I would like to see some of your work here too. I also really rate Dan's course. His teaching style also suits me, it quiet ethereal and the same time structured - it's a case of, I get it. Attending Dan's course in United States would be great but I'm wondering if he's doing something a bit closer perhaps in Europe since we're over here.

These days I'm into Lesson 8-B on the ins and outs of Calligraphic Hatchmark. I enjoy the opportunity to work with students in places like the Czech Republic, Hawaii, and Oaxaca. Art is a solitary business, which makes staying connected important for sanity. But more than that, I believe in drawing as a necessity of living - to develop into something that fills your mind as well as your spirit with energy and fulfillment. I invite you to check it out.
@fareena I agree with Gary on the proficiency you are showing with mark making, Fareena. Your drawing has a complexity to it that is inspiring, and original. I also want to mention that, with respect to the John H. Vanderpoel diagrams on planar head structure, you'll be wise to try to sort out what V is getting at with those points of reference. They all have anatomical significance. I want you to, over time and in no hurry, closely observe the subtle topography of a skull's surface so that when you draw, the "personality" of V's landmarks will translate into each and every portrait.
There is another thing as well. Your comment about elements appearing "late in" is excellent, and precisely why it will be wise to practice your drawing in a "flexible" way (not committing to finishing the piece too soon, so that your work will incorporate "breathing space" as it develops). Also, try schematic drawings from different perspectives on the head, and from memory.
Congratulations on creating a beautiful drawing, one of the finest that this course has produced.
