Learning from a Master is the ultimate experience, lately I've focused on great artists from the past that can't directly teach me but that have left an enormous amount of knowledge through their art! I've been studying them and shared my discoveries with you, see my Domestika course on Leonardo da Vinci here https://bit.ly/3mnFElc
This is a series of studies on the Master John Singer Sargent, and incredible oil portrait painter with a secret love for watercolor, I hope you enjoy the journey!
This detail is from the bigger picture above of the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, a very significant building that was built to celebrate the end of the pandemic, not this one... but the plague that struck Venice really hard in 1630-31
Sargent depicted the church a number of times in watercolor and oil, this study is of a watercolor that he did, this time from land and not from a boat in the water.
Another study of Venice, a wonderful autumn light and all the magic that water can express using a technique based on... water! I love watercolors
To end this trip with Sargent we end with this wonderful painting of Miami estate of Villa Vizcaya, a place that reminded him of Italy and Spain. This was my first study and it was a challenge to paint those palms but what a joy to discover Sargent vibrant palette!
