This set of illustrations were made for an exciting and relevant project called 68 Voces that collects mexican folk tales that are told in their original indigenous lenguage and are explained with the help of animation. This folk story in particular is about the Creation of the Turbada Festival in Guarijío Sonora. You can read it below:
They say that in the beginning, when there was no Earth and only the sea, God grabbed some sand from the depths of the water, sang for three days and three nights, and thanks to his singing, the earth began to grow. Later on, with a piece of the same mud that was formed, he created the Guarijíos and the food that exists in nature. God and Goddess created the Tuburada festival so that we always remember how the world began. That is how we the Guarijíos tell it.
One of the requirements for this project was to think of each element and its parts as something that would move, so different instances of each were made and arranged on layers, so the animators could work with them.
