I first tried copying Tianyin artwork to practice hand motions and then moved to my own subject. Well, while I cannot fully copy Tianyin strokes, I've improved my ability to mix sharp and vague structures in the final work and am happy with the result. As a general observation of my leanings: 1) I decided not to use that large "sock" movement at the start - I normally miss the right proportions at that point and that misleads me later on. I may go back to that in the future as indeed it nicely reflects curves); 2) I do not have a flat knife in my set, only oval and point ones, what affects the marks but they work well too!, 3) I used very cheap paper (that was already at home for practicing), it's fully ok but for one feature: I can erase very subtle marks only while ticker ones cannot be removed completely. I plan to buy a different paper type next week.
