So, it has been around for over 3000 years. It's one of the oldest preserved pieces of woven furniture. You can see the woodworking is very simple on this piece and the weaving is really doing the heavy work on this. Woven furniture could also be something like a hammock. Heide Martin is a designer specializing in furniture and houseware. After graduating with two degrees in landscape architecture and urban design, she realized that her true passion lay in making things by hand. Inspired by her hobby and her carpenter husband, Heide went on to study an intensive woodworking course where she honed her skills.
Since then she’s worked with brands including Laura Mercier, contributed to Fine Woodworking Magazine, and started her own studio alongside her husband where she practices her passion for handmade woven surfaces. Heide has also been a resident and visiting artist at San Diego State University, Maine College of Art and Design, and more. As well as selling and exhibiting her work internationally, she has taught furniture design at Escuela de Artes y Oficios Santo Domingo, and assistantships at the University of Washington and Center for Furniture Craftsmanship.
