Theory before practice
In this unit I will talk about very basic principles of communication theory, so that you can develop content taking into account what you want to say, how to say it, and how to generate positive responses in your audience.
-
Communication theory
– 12 minutes, 58 seconds
Before I start creating content for you to post to your Instagram account, I'd like to share some communication theory with you.
-
Advertising theory
– 8 minutes, 34 seconds
In my social media posts, I use learnings I've gained from my advertising career that I want to share with you in this lesson.
-
Humor theory
– 12 minutes, 57 seconds
In my experience, there is a very strong value in communication, a very simple trick to break down all barriers and get people to engage with you and what you want to say: It is humor. In this lesson I want to give you some examples of the use that we give to this great tool.

Let's make a visual joke
– 8 minutes, 37 seconds
Once all the necessary theory has been reviewed, in this lesson we will put what we have learned into practice. Let's support the trending topic of the moment!
Tasks
-
Pick a trending topic and make it a visual joke Practice exercise 2.1
It is important that you go to Twitter and find something you want to say; many times we choose things that we do not like or that bother us. Instead of making an angry comment or picking a fight, focus that energy on making a joke. Follow the steps that I did to make yours.
Post them on the forum, so I can give you feedback.
-
Fill in the speech bubbles Practice exercise 2.2
In the attached documents I left you 5 of my drawings with text balloons for you to fill them out. There are no right or wrong answers. Whatever comes to mind is fine! The only requirement is that it makes you happy. Think of something that you find fun and witty.
Share your ideas on the forum.

Great artists and visual conceptualizers
Each of them have different skills that we can definitely learn from them:
Gino Bud Hoiting
Elegant line, synthesis in the elements and a childish point of view of life.Brandon Spiegel
Brandon is an example of the commitment to a style and its exploitation to its maximum capacity. This style and unique lines has earned it being chosen by brands to develop merchandise with their designs.Geoff McFetridge
It seems to me the finest and most elegant of them all. Unique style, maximum visual synthesis and a game with obsessive elements that never seem to run out. His color palette and execution is also mind-blowing. I really like it and it seems to me that he has a fresh vision in each drawing, and is not afraid to do simple things. -
The great Quino
A visual humorist, the first I discovered when I was very young and he taught me that you can make jokes without using words, which by the way are the most difficult to make. On this Pinterest page, you can see some of his best work.
