Music Illustrations

In addition to all my comics projects, I also work as a freelance illustrator. Even though my focus is in the visual arts, I also love music! I play the trumpet, guitar, piano and always have music on in the background while I am drawing.

When I began illustrating professionally, one of the first things I did was reach out to bands that I liked, to see if they would want to work together. Back in 2008 I illustrated this promotional postcard and some button designs for the epic wizard rock band Harry and the Potters which eventually lead to illustrating the album cover for a wizard rock compilation put out by the nonprofit organization the Harry Potter Alliance (now known as Fandom Forward).

In 2010 I illustrated a series of digital album covers for the (now-defunct) Ramen Music website. Each "issue" of Ramen Music was a curated online album of eclectic music from all over the world. I did my best to make these illustrations exciting and engaging, like the music they were visually representing.

Through this project I eventually went on to illustrate solo album covers from Ramen Music alumni Sudara Williams and Ben Montgomery. Check them out on Spotify! Their music is great.

I have been lucky enough to illustrate a number of items for my all-time favorite band, Weezer.

These include two VIP posters for their Memories Tour in 2010, a T-shirt design for the Everything Will Be Alright In The End tour in 2014, and the cover for the 2018 Weezer Fan Club exclusive 7" single, It's Been So Long. All of these projects were art directed by Karl Koch.
