My project for course: Graphic Experimentation for Illustrated Stories

The journey of this class was long and truly incredible. Took almost a year since I started the course- and on the way, became several projects. The book I am illustrating is Pied Piper, a story I have long been fascinated with,but also wanted to retell and change. I completed all the steps last summer, including a mock up of my 3 illustrations and how they would fit on a page. The revised story would be Pied Piper takes the children with him, but they don't drown or disappear, but rather, turn into fish and enjoy the sounds of music underwater.

After the full mock up all I needed to do is a larger, clean set of illustrations, but life happened and I put it on hold. Several months later the idea has spun into an entirely new version of Pied Piper, for the #folktale2022 challenge: a story of music rebellion, illustrated in ink, collage and digitally. Months later, during yet another Instagram art challenge, I have finally completed the set of three illustrations, two of which have moved quite far from the original mock up. The story keeps changing, I feel that its retellings are endless

My absolute favourite part of the class was the starting exercise of loose sketches on a large piece of paper. Many of the images did not end up in the final set but I keep returning to them. Thank you so much, @alejandraacosta
