Salamanders were once believed to be Fire Spirits.
These amphibians sometimes spend the cold Winter months hidden into old logs. And once upon a time, when such a piece of wood was collected and used to start a fire, salamanders would suddenly be seen emerging from the blaze, creating the illusion that they were borne of fire.
A juvenile Eastern Newt walks through the freshness of ferns and white clover, nestling his fire with his tail.
I'm so glad I took this class! Thank you so much Jessica!
This beautiful technique of yours breathes life into illustrations! I love the texture and rythm the combination of graphite line shading + digital line highlights brings. It feels like everything is undulating and breathing!
I'm looking forward to trying this technique again, playing around with it and adapting it to my own way of drawing (and maybe even combining it with photography, why not?)
I heard there's a new class coming...
I can't wait!!

Docent PlusBeautiful! I love how this turned out. The colors work really well! Sometimes it can be fun to play with the Color Balance adjustment layer and see if you like how it changes the colors, but personally I think this looks great.
I'm excited to see how you adapt this into your own work! Thanks so much for taking the class!

@jessicaroux When looking at it again after a few days I thought it looked much too warm and I colour-balanced it like you suggested. I also realized I had forgotten the light "arcs" on the clover leafs so I added them in, and changed the background to a dark green instead of a blackish navy.
I like it much better now!
Thank you again for an amazing class!
