OLD SPICE: Wieden+Kennedy Advertising is known for its award-winning whimsical ads for Old Spice. Headed by Creative Director Craig Allen, the visuals use in-camera techniques that mirrored my own. I've provided several BTS stills that will help in understanding the process:
The campaign's tagline, "Be the Freshest Smelling Place on Earth," inspired the practical approach to fusing man with his element, in this case, fitting him with custom-made prosthetics decorated with comical vignettes. Our talent, Isaiah Mustafa, had to endure 6.5 hours of application and make-up before each shoot.
The process starts with scanning Isaiah in three dimensions using a special scanner. A 3D digital rendering is generated and used to create three life-sized mannequins. The mannequins are then used as a platform to build the prosthetics off of, taking three weeks to complete.
