Hi @jalexanderguillen !
I'm already nagging around here again. As promised, I would like your opinion of another character design that I was working on and which I will describe:
This old goblin can barely walk but, like every morning, he is busy visiting caves in order to steal or get something of value to be able to deal with him in the village market. Before, he shared this task with petty theft and pillage on the roads of the periphery, but age is taking hold of him ...
Cool, not bad as an idea and represents what you put :), it is binen.
The problem that I see from the black and white sketch that you present is the shadow. It creates confusion when painting it since the light comes from behind, so most of the character's drawing would be dark. This is the part that I see the weakest.
I like the conceptualization of the black and white drawing, it's fine :) it has been when taking it to color that it fails a bit.
At the color selection level it works quite well and contrasts a lot :)
I recommend that after doing as you have done the sketch, it is to paint it in various shapes and lights before making the final one, it is a good practice.
@jalexanderguillen as always, super helpful advice. I'll write it down and give it a spin. I'm sure I'll ask you again, about this and some other design. As long as it doesn't bother you, since your advice is very useful ...
Thanks again!!!!
And do not tire of continuing and repeating, making mistakes is the basis of drawing, rectifying and seeing those errors is the way to continue improving.
Well, at the level of sketches, they are honestly fine but I see few studies, especially at the level of the final pose.
The chosen pose does not quite work, if you look at illustrators, usually the poses tend to be more active, with more strength, more open legs, I think the legs fail. The sky for example is very well achieved, few brushstrokes and expresses the intention very well.
Body up works well too.
I sincerely believe that it is the initial pose, the pose study that fails. That is why I repeat a lot that the initial phase of the sketch is the most important, it is where the study of the character should come out.
The color is fine, it is simply the pose of the legs, solving it will improve considerably.
@jalexanderguillen thank you very much. I'll give it a spin, yeah. Let's see if I can give it coherence. It is true that I did little previous study, it shows ...
I'll keep hanging around here when I have another design, as long as you don't mind that I keep asking for feedback. I really appreciate the attention and advice!
The next step to follow would be to try to take care of the lighting, I know it is complicated and hard to learn, but with this extra point everything will be much more integrated.
You can do it in 3D, taking a free model and simply lighting it up or with a doll, you will see the difference.
for the rest I see that you give it cane, it is positive.
@magiperillo yap, it is what costs the most, the lighting is correct, but little by little you will see how it improves, passing the drawing to black and white and seeing the values also helps :)
