Jean Marc, first a caveat, student projects are not translated by the website so I copy and paste the into a third-party translation system, so there are occasional gaps in understanding. Please pardon any misunderstandings.
Second, it is so great to see how deeply you've thought about this story! You've already got artwork for it, too. I do appreciate how AI art allow us to create the visual representation of what we're imagining for our stories.
Reading through it brought up two questions to explore further and a few comments about what seems like it will work really well.
You've done a great character study of Shi Liù. I don't know when you created him--as in, years ago or recently for the sake of this project, but you've done that emotional labor to dig into who you think he is, both his social self and his shadow self. My question for you is: How will you reveal him to the reader? In other words: how will the reader learn about who he is? Building on the specifics of the class, will this be a first person where we have access to his thoughts and feelings? Or, will it be third person where we mainly see him through his noble actions? Given the emphasis on questing for knowledge and learning, it seems likely that a reader would want/need access to the interior experience of Shi Liù. But that isn't mandatory, as there are other ways to do that and I'd be curious how you'd hoping to solve those.
Second question is about scene work. That opening moment was very cinematic, and you do have art, so that suggest the story will be very vivid and visual, but that will be something you'll want to balance out with how much of his interiority you'll reveal to the reader. There's no wrong way to do it, but just be sure to make that a conscious choice.
Your time line and voice seem well thought out and in alignment with the direction of the story--essentially, your narrative choices make sense in connection to the thematic and plot of your piece.
Very good work! I hope you've started writing and joyously engaging in story about "philosophie globale asiatique!"
@rmbibby Hello, first of all allow me to wish you all my best wishes for health and happiness for this new 2024.
There are few participants in my story. My character Shi Liù began to be born 30 years ago, as part of my own survival. It is a part of my own existence. I want the reader to identify with Shi Liù. He will have an old man to guide him, the guardian of the “Collection of Knowledge”. The reader will feel Shi Liù's deep feelings. Everything that the main character will experience through the 10 ebooks in progress can be experienced by the reader or has been experienced.
Yes, I have already started writing this not-so-happy and rather complex story. I want to make readers (re)discover the interest of superimposing Asian philosophy with Western philosophy . A life journey to bring individual reflection, in this world which is constantly transforming.
Shi Liù has a black hole in his past. He is without family, without social connections...yet he has overcome the obstacles to transmit today a forgotten knowledge, a lost truth. He will soon be at the twilight of his life, so it is time for him to pass on his knowledge, authentic and simple.
Thank you for this course which opened the way to writing for me. Each of the ebooks will follow the same plan. Having not had the opportunity to have university courses, I am very honored to have had a good comment from a professor like you. I thank you very much.
Good day
Best regards
@atis_38 I'm so glad you enjoyed the course! I too never studied at a university, so it is exciting to find other ways of honing our craft. Keep on writing Shi Liù's story! I look forward to it being in the world.
Thank you for this stimulating encouragement. Don't worry. I continue this writing which constantly opens new doors for me to improve the story.
A big thank you to you.
Best regards
