After having focused almost exclusively on portraits so far, it was a whole new adventure for me to paint full figures. Thank you Ale for your course which made me curious and encouraged me to try it.
Ale's style of painting is on the one hand very intuitive, free and loose, but at the same time very structured and with a lot of thought in terms of colour combinations. This is not easy to teach and to learn. But the lessons were very comprehensible and encouraging, so that I could learn a lot from them. From now on, I guess it's time to keep practising for many many hours....
Ale suggested three loose and colourful figure studies as the first exercises. I chose my own reference images, because I have to think more about my choices when painting than when I imitate the teacher's steps. But I roughly followed Ale's suggestions in terms of colour palette. I substituted some colours because I didn't have all of them at home or because, for example, the phtalo blue I have was too strong compared to the other colours in the palette.
The following three pictures are the result of this first exercise. I was particularly pleased that for once I managed to apply the colours relatively loosely and with a lot of water and not to try to control too much.
Thank you Ale for the inspirations, the exciting insight into your approach and the thoughtful and encouraging lessons!

@rodlovell thank you! I learned a lot from Ale's technique in the course, how to mix and layer colours to use and bring out their vibrancy.
