Hi, I’m Yen - a freelance Illustrator from Sai Gon, Viet Nam. I’m so gratefull to have a chance to take this amazing course by Marcos Chin! Thank you so much for creating such a fun and informative class, I love it and have learnt a lot!
.
I choose to create an art piece about the movie Blade Runner because it’s my all time favourite. As this is my personal works, I really want to jump out of my comfort zone and experiment with new techniques and go wild with colors and composition. The process is so fun and tough at the same time, but I love and enjoy every moment of it.
.
I sincerely apologize for the grammatically incorrect signs in my illustration.
The composition is developed according to the meaning of each characters in the storyline, but I still try to create an interesting perspective to keep the eye of the viewer in the drawing.
I want to make sure that every elements put into my work has its own meaning. This is like a double-edged sword, it makes my drawing convincing (at least I think so) but it also limits and hinders my freedom in the creative process. I'm trying to balance these two things every time I'm sketching.
After drawing the overall line, I decided to use grains for the whole piece. In this step I experimented with using texures to slightly create dark and light for the drawing.
My drawing was inspired by the legendary movie scene "Tears in rain", so I decided to use ink and water, taking advantage of the unexpected ink splashes to create wet and musty textures.
As for the color, I have to confess that I just went with my instincts. It took me many years to realize that I really enjoy using green in my illustrations. And this time is no exception. However, I have added red and orange colors to highlight and make the whole look is not too boring.
I used Procreate for sketching and Adobe Photoshop for coloring because of the unlimited amount of layers that Photoshop provides. I frist applied the base colours and then added shadow and light for each. On top of that I played with textures that i created - this step was soooo fun, I loved it so much. Then for the finish touches, I returned my piece to Procreate and added some fun details to bring more Cyberpunk vibe to the art piece.

And this is the finish look!
