This is are carved tambour cabinet. We've made a number of these and one of the great things about the design is how adaptable it is The pictures here are of three of them we've made, but what they all have in common is the hand carved tambour and hand cut dovetail carcass.
Tambour is a cleaver but simple mechanism for cabinet doors. The thin slats are glued onto a canvas backing which holds them together while allowing them to bend. The tambour is then run in grooves top and bottom of the carcass so it can travel around the side and back of the cabinet. The effect is that when opened it neatly travels out of view.
