My project for course: Information Design: Storytelling with Data in Illustrator - Urban population vs. GDP per capita, PPP

For my final project, I examined the relationship between urban population and GDP per capita of countries. The final version of the infographic was designed to cover two pages of a magazine or book. It showcases a comparison between the GDPs of the top 20 and bottom 20 countries.

I started by exploring the question of whether there is a relationship between urbanization and economic development. Then, I organized and merged two separate datasets in Excel.

Before visualizing the data, I reviewed visuals related to urbanization and created sketches.

Afterwards, I selected what I believed to be the best from my sketches and created a prototype using Data Illustrator.

I transferred it to Illustrator for further refinement. I changed the font and color palette, and to evoke a city atmosphere, I added a city skyline silhouette to the background.
