The caption made it impossible to write more, so I'll just do it here ...
Thank you so much for this course, it was - as they say - a real game changer. In my previous drafts I explained quite a lot of what I was actually showing, so cut that. ;) Now, I fear, I cut a little bit too much. But it's all trial and error, like you said.
Will recommend you course, definitely. And will rewatch it. It's been a real eye-opener.
Thanks again.
@ulibrauns Wow! This looks great (the additional color takes it to another level!). I'm glad to hear you found the course helpful. Hopefully you will continue to experiment of the balance between writing and drawing as you continue this story, to find what's right for you. Also, I hope your dog is okay!
@phasesevencomics Sorry, I was so tired from working on the page all day, but desperately wanted to share it. So my little text was not very good. 😬
I want to draw my dog‘s story who has PLL (primary lens luxation) among other stuff - and living with this resilient little creature who has lost both his eyes has been an amazing journey. I still habe a lot to learn comicwise - but your course gave me a very clear indication of what I need to practise, so that the page will look like what I already imagine in my head. And simply DOING it is learning. I would draw this pages differently already … I don‘t know whether or not it is clear, that I shine a light into his eye in the middle panel - or how I could make this more obvious or if I might have to explain it … But will play around a little more. And I am unsure where or not to include a „click“ in panel 2 or 3 to indicate that I turn on the light … If it‘s clear that it‘s dark in panel 2 (or how to make this more obvious). But Inam very happy that you made me confident enough to put pen to paper and see it as a learning opportuny (of course it cannot come out perfect as I am only a beginner …).
And thanks so much for the productivity bit! I love the maths as well and calculating time and staying ahead. This was so helpful, I can‘t stress it enought.
@ulibrauns Wow, that would be a great story! If you have not already, you should check out the book Fetch by Nicole Georges - about her life with dogs - a great graphic novel!
I'm always a fan of using all the available tricks that comics has at its disposal, so I think a "click" sound effect for the light, or some "emenata" (little lines that express an emotion - like squiggly lines coming from the dog's eye to show that something is wrong) are a great idea to experiment with as you continue to work on this story.
I'm so glad to hear that the productivity tips were useful!
@phasesevencomics Wow, thanks for the reference, I'll check out "Fetch". And thanks for the other suggestions. Yeah, the emenata! I am currently re-reading all my comics and graphic novels with new eyes for tricks like these and to get a grasp of the storytelling and the structure and other ideas. A whole new level. I might upload another page, if that's okay?
@ulibrauns I think you can upload as much as you like? I know people have posted multiple images in their final project to show their process. I'd love to see page 2!
@phasesevencomics So, I posted three more pages - they are in the general project area though, somehow I couldn't post something else here. Maybe you are curious enough to look at them as well? :) I would appreciate it very much. Thank you! :)
