We have these beautiful birds of prey in areas of the Eastern United States. However, they are now listed as a bird of "special concern", "threatened" and in some states even on the "endangered" list, which saddens my heart.
These raptors are also endangered throughout parts of Europe, where this beautiful male was photographed by, Dutch photographer, Rob van Mourick. This watercolor painting is of a Common Kestrel, Falco tinnunculus (Falconidae). My special thanks to Rob for allowing me the use of his awesome photograph.
Let’s help folks become aware of the plight Kestrels face, so that they can be protected before we lose this amazing bird.

Dear Judy, what a fine piece of work. Portrait. closeup. I especially like the details, beak and claws.
Bird protection seems important to me. Perhaps you can make another illustration and show the kestrel's habitat (old trees, steeple, and fields and fields) in more detail in the next piece. Watch him hunt and develop a small series about him. You could sketch it in different positions in the sketchbook.

There are robbers too. Fast hunters. Once a hawk plucked a young swallow from our clothesline right before my eyes. It happened so fast that my eyes could hardly follow what was happening. Sadly I stayed behind with the three Schwalben siblings. Life and death very close together.
I wish you lots of fun with your further explorations.
Sincerely, Ute

Ute,
Thanks for the beautiful compliments. Protecting God's creation is important to me also. I hate seeing how we keep losing animals and birds around the world. One of the reasons I want to highlight some of these endangered species is to help bring awareness to their plight so that we can continue to benefit from them as part of our ecosystems and enjoy their beauty.
I loved your ideas too with regard to showing them in their habitat or developing a series around them. I will have to take that into consideration as I hope to paint more of these amazing birds in the future. I will have to keep an eye out for photo references that include those aspects.
I watched the entire YouTube video that you sent. Only, wish I could have figured out how to get it translated into English to fully appreciate the narration. Nevertheless, it was amazing to watch!! Thanks you for sharing it.
Thanks again for your input!! Judy
