Hi! This is my illustration of Paharganj, a tourist district situated in the Central part of New Delhi, India. Through Carlos' guidance of line weights, composition and shadows, I created a monochrome illustration of an iconic area in Paharganj, called the '6 Tooti Chowk', symbolic of a central area where 6 taps were located centuries ago to wash, clean and at the same time allow residents to form social connections. Now it's full of unorganized hawkers, small shops and public toilets catering to tourists, surrounded by some residential blocks and restaurants overlooking this chowk.
I decided to go for a monochrome look not only because it is my signature style but also because I wanted to understand and represent elements through shadows and tones to bring forward the raw look of this place. It is slightly different from most illustrations on here, and I will be experimenting with colours and refining my monochrome style more and more with each illustration. I had an amazing time with this course, and am always awed by all the beautiful and creative illustrations posted on this forum by other students, and of course, the mastermind Carlos himself. Inspiration all round!

Teacher PlusI really love this illustration! It is very well realized and with the spirit of the district. A very adult language with the city vibrant life and complexity! Congrats!

@carlo_stanga Thank You Carlo! Your work is massively inspiring because of not only the technique but the amount of life you add into your illustrations. I can only hope to learn and refine the process of giving my sketches some life.

@jetorot Thank you so much your comment means a lot! (I didn't even realize that my illustration had some undertones of Picasso's monochrome work. Great observation!
