This is my project for Sarah Stoke‘s watercolour birds course. I took it after the animal portrait course, so I allowed myself not to redo all the exercises and move forward to the final painting. But I really enjoyed going through the theory again with the videos to keep everything in mind. You are a great teacher, Sarah!
I did not feel like drawing many small birds and when I went through Unsplash to look for references I got hung up on that wonderful chicken and the blue reflections on it‘s feathers. I wish I would have managed to emphasise them even more. It turned out to be very tricky to not mix the blues and the yellows/oranges and turn it into a hot mess.
Over all I am very happy with it, especially with the punchy orange you taught how to mix in the other course!

Teacher PlusOh wow!!! This is incredible and I’m so proud that you achieved this as your final project. It’s so accomplished. The tones, colours and brushwork are absolutely spot on! I also notice that you d used both hard and soft edges so well… something that is often overlooked. Incredible work. Thank you so much for sharing it to the forum!!

@sarah_stokes thank you so much for this encouraging feedback! If I only could I would love to visit one of your face to face courses. I am very happy that I was able to take a leap in my art through Domestika though. What an amazing time to be alive! I don’t wanna get all weird and cheesy but you really helped me rediscover something I always loved to do but almost gave up on. 😅 I couldn’t be happier!
