I created these propagation stations to mount to a wall for either small flowers or plant propagations.
These are cast in epoxy resin, that I have tinted to make translucent colors. My goal with these was to create a beautiful translucent object that would catch and transmit the light.
To create this piece, I started by designing it in CAD, and 3D printing the model. I designed it such that the test tube was held but not fully surrounded by the piece.
I sanded the 3D print up to a 800 grit finish to get a matte finish and I used this master to create a silicone mold.
Once I had my finished mold, I cast resin into it. I love mixing the colors most- I don’t like following a recipe so each batch is a new shade.
One quick tip with working with larger resin casts like this is to use a pressure pot to eliminate bubbles- it makes the castings look much cleaner
