Creative Packaging Design
“Now we’ve arrived at the end of the course, I hope that it has given you a good outlook on how to create packaging that is truly creative and goes beyond being boxes, creating a truly unique consumer experience. We’ve learned what is packaging design looking at some example, we’ve learned how to analyse a brief and brainstorm packaging concepts, we’ve learned how to design a simple dieline manually and on Illustrator, how to design the packaging, choose the material, print it and finally put it together to do photos for your portfolio or to send to your client. If you are presenting a project to a client, making a good mockup with a good PDF presentation if you can't have a meeting in person is key, it will be part of how you present your ideas. The packaging is really fun because it has so many layers but it is also quite complex, so don’t worry if you’ve felt like it’s been a little bit difficult. Also don’t be scared to ask for help, to ask for explanations to the printer for example. You also have to be proactive, if you don’t know something, look it up on Google, no designer has all the answers. Every time you don’t know something, don’t be discouraged, see it as an opportunity to learn something new.
I’ve created the class trying to take steps that would be the same for every packaging project, feel free to take the brief that I’ve worked on, but maybe change the books to books that you love, or try and find a packaging concept that you think will look great on your portfolio. As a young designer, you’re rarely given the chance to do projects that really have your style. So my advice would be to have fun, do something that feels really you, this way you might bring some more similar clients. I am looking really forward to seeing your final projects, whatever tips that you find, anything interesting that you learn, share them with the community. ”Partial transcription of the video
