About the final project for: Floral Illustration on Ceramic

Floral Illustration on Ceramic

“We have reached the end of the course, I congratulate you on having reached this point! I thank you very much for all the dedication and attention you have given to the content and tasks that I prepared for you. Now you are ready to start your own projects and expand your collection. Through this technique you can create tea sets, but also flowerpots, vases, vases or whatever you want to use and decorate your spaces. The wide palette of colors offered by the undercover will allow you to create new compositions and elements, which will bring a lot of joy and expression to your home. In addition, they will have that unique and exclusive touch of being made by your own hands. Now it is your turn to start your new adventure with a project. Before saying goodbye, I would like to show you how I would love to see your final project so that I can give you better feedback. The mood board Look for images to inspire you, also define the colors that you will use later in the illustration. For this step, I recommend you to try the colors on the side of the images of the mood board, and to extract the colors from those same images.

The sketch I showed you my process of sketching on paper, which is mainly used to see the arrangement of the elements, without having to add so many details. Remember that the first thing is to determine which will be the main figure of your illustration, the one that will be present more than once in your composition in different sizes and directions, then I suggest you draw the secondary flowers and leaves. Try different shapes and sizes too to add dynamism and originality to your work!
The color Test the colors, outlining each item with colored pencils. This will allow you to do tests and get a more complete view of your work.
To the ceramics! Apply the sketch to the pottery. I recommend you start with the plates, since they are easier than the cups because you can see the entire drawing and everything you apply on it; Unlike the cups that, because they are round, you will have a little more difficulty when transferring your sketch. Remember that by altering some elements of the original sketch or changing the colors of some elements, you can make each piece of your set different from the other while still belonging to a set.
Undercover Apply the undercover on the plates, try different brushstrokes to generate different textures; and then go on to do the same process in the cups, pay attention to painting in order of elements instead of by color, to avoid running the paint and having a support area for the arm in the same cup. When applying the undercover on any ceramic you want to make, I suggest not putting so much water on the paint so that it does not drip. In addition, it is important that you wait for the paint to dry before applying one color over another.
The final touch Apply the transparent glaze, but make sure you wait long enough for the piece to dry, since when you put the glaze on the cakes, the piece is getting wet, and if the paints are not completely dry they could run. It is very important that you remember that you must apply two layers of polish, and each one of them must be a thin layer. Remember that the enamel should not run off when you are applying it, nor should it accumulate. Note that the enamel layers are thin, they must cover the entire illustration in its entirety, so that the undercover is fixed and so that the piece is waterproofed. Pack your pieces to transport them to the oven, a very important stage to avoid accidents, and admire your final result of the project.
Now you are ready to expand your ceramic family! I am already eager to see your creations! Remember that you can leave me your questions and progress in the forum, and I will review them whenever I can to complement your learning. I thank you again for having taken this course, for me it is an honor to be able to teach about this trade that I like so much. Good luck and see you on the forum! ”
