About the final project for: Designing Unique Luxury Spaces

Designing Unique Luxury Spaces

“Dear student, We have reached the end of the course, we hope you’ve learned a lot of new things and that you find them useful in your practice. Now it’s time for you to show what you are capable of! Whenever you are designing a small room, a big store, a restaurant, or a private house, remember that your design has to be UNIQUE! Keep that in your mind at all times, and avoid at all costs following trends or copying something that has already been done. Be bold, experiment, and break the molds! Think that the are so many designers out there, and you have to try your best to stand out. The best way to do it is by nurturing a recognizable design language. However, as important as having a personal voice is to also meet the requirements of your client. Here you have to find the right balance between emotion and function. Your design has to be equal parts functional and poetic. This goal can be met humbly, so you have to listen to every one of the persons involved in the process: your client, your suppliers, and the artisans you work with. Seek out new materials, techniques, and ways to tell your story. Curiosity must be your driving force. Being curious will make you brave enough to explore uncharted territories and find unexpected solutions. Be a trailblazer. Trailblazers take imagination to its limits! Finally, any good designer has to show technical prowess and the ability to communicate, the latter being essential when presenting the project. Use beautiful images and visuals of your space to persuade the client. The approach here has to be elastic, covering all bases, in a multidisciplinary effort. You will notice that this approach will prevent you from getting carried away with the first idea that comes to your mind. It will help you examine and question your ideas. Be an explosion of intense creativity but also hold yourself accountable! We are looking forward to seeing your process and final results, we are incredibly excited to know more about you and your approach to design! We’ll be replying and giving feedback in the forum and we hope to generate an open discussion within the community. Bear in mind that we are working on different projects at the same time and we might take a bit to get back to all of you, so be patient if we can’t reply immediately! We would like for you to engage in conversation in the forum. An essential skill for designers is to be able to deal with criticism in a constructive way. Another vital skill to have is the ability to learn from others. We are all different and unique but Interior Design is such a personal discipline and industry that the line between good and bad, ugly and beautiful, functional and emotional, comfortable and provocative is very thin. The tension between opposing forces is what keeps us moving! Embrace this tension, feel it, explore it, give shape to it! Arrivederci e grazie!
