Poetry Book Cover Design

Book cover design and illustration for poet, musician, artist Jean Fineberg. I wanted an intriguing cover to make the reader want to read the book. I love how the mobius was a metaphor used in several of the poems in an emotionally powerful way.

The mobius was a tricky thing to draw. You need an odd number of twists in the loop to have the effect. Plus I wanted a shape to intertwine with the letters and a color that would contrast a dark purple and a bight yellow.

To get the mobius to appear real and dimensional I made one with a ribbon to make sure it was constructed properly. I photographed it and marked the lines with vector lines in photoshop. Then shaded inside the shapes in a painterly way. I love how the effect has hard edges but lots of texture.
