Ida y vuelta

IDA Y VUELTA (Bothway ticket) is a project that combines jewelry and etching in a creative and unique dialogue between the two techniques. It is my personal expedition /voyage to the art of etching and printing using as a starting point my experience in the jewelry field.
In the first part of this journey I traveled from jewelry to engraving, that is, from that I know to that I wish to learn. I engraved five plates and three rings in wax, which were turned into silver using the lost wax technique. I then used them as printing plates for embossing or for printing with ink. Finally I transformed the plates into pendants making it impossible to ever print again with the same plate. The engravings are printed in a limited collection of three copies for each plate.
For the second part of the journey, from engraving back to jewelry I created an etching using a copper plate. A small edition of eight etchings was printed, and then the plate was cut into pieces that were transformed into jewelry, making it impossible for the etchings to be reproduced again.
For me this project symbolises the eternal quest for knowledge and challenges the idea of home that we bare inside. What does it mean to abandon the nest, to move to another country, to get out of our comfort zone in order to learn, to grow, to expand our wings?
