My project for course: Make Art Your Own: Exploring Artistic Identity

I loved taking this course. My beloved pup, Apple, passed away recently, and it helped me to see the genesis of Blackie the Cat and how the precious moments and lessons learned from Blackie had become a powerful character in Gary's visual language. Through this course, Apple became a dragon, and I found myself as an onigiri. My family's history as coffee farmers in Kona emerged through drawing my memories, and I was able to revisit memories of going to the beach with Apple on Guam. I was also able to travel with my pup to Paris. She was too ill for me to take her to all the places in Los Angeles I wanted to take her to, so I'm glad the final piece I made through this class was at a park in Silver Lake.
