Bluebird Cupcakes

I was feeling inspired by the arrival of Springtime and wanted to bring a bit of that joy into my cupcakes with some adorable bluebirds! My goal was to come up with a design that felt unique, yet still simple, cute, and easy to achieve.

I started by piping a large, tapered swoosh of buttercream along the top of the cupcake to create the basic shape of the bird's body. And then made a wing out of candy melts to extend from the body and give the illusion of the bird taking flight. I love that the pose of the bird is dynamic and in motion!

Finally, I used a palette knife to layer more buttercream onto the wing and belly to add feather-like texture, and even more dimension.

I love when cupcakes can be paired together to tell a story, and these work perfectly to do just that. By creating another cupcake companion for the first bluebird, I was able to position them to look like they are kissing, and now they are love birds!
