My project for course: Natural Illustration with Digital Painting

I wanted to create a new banner for my website and social media during this project. I don't have a drawing tablet so used a mouse. I used two of my favourite flowers Datura and Foxglove, from where I derived the name "pink fox" from. The Pink Fox is a muse for my creative life and projects, and a figure which I have also derived from fox folklore from around the world.

I chose the fox to be sleeping, as much of my work deals with the "other" realm, the realm of fantasy and fairytale that is accessed through that "in between" barrier, a place like dreams. Foxglove is a flower very much associated with the fairy realm through folklore. Datura is one of those plants which like foxglove is poisonous, and has been used medicinally, but its associations are quite a bit darker. Many of my tales, poems and artworks dabble with slightly darker themes of death, and loss.

I chose a lighter background, rather than a darker one to keep it soft and light, playing with contrast between both the soft and dark themes of my work, as well as playing into a "victorian" elegance.
