I began this project with a large slab of soft clay. I cut a large rectangle, a circle, a small rectangle, and a curved rectangle from the large slab to make the bottle parts.
I textured the large rectangular slab and let it stiffen slightly. I wrapped this textured slab around a cylindrical form and joined the two ends.
Next, I formed the curved rectangle into a cone shape by joining the two ends and trimming it to fit the same circumference as my large cylinder.
Next, I joined the two sides of my small rectangular piece of slab to form a small cylinder.
Once the cone and small cylinder are slightly stiffened and trimmed to my desired size, I attached them to the top of my large cylinder.
I waited for the bottomless bottle to set up considerably before laying it gently on its side. At this point, I reached up inside to make sure my joins are properly sealed. I smoothed them over with my finger.
I then joined the circular slab to the bottom of the bottle form, trimmed off excess, and gently rolled the base to compress the join and soften the corner.
I let me project dry slowly and once it was bone dry, I bisque it, glazed it, and fired it to temperature.
I like to play with different dimension of all the pieces to create a variety of finished forms. Some are tall and narrow, some are short and wide. Some are in between.
