I was born and raised in the countryside of Co. Donegal, in rural Ireland. I made the move to Belfast after finishing school to complete a degree in Fine & Applied Art at the University of Ulster. After graduating in 2012 I then moved to Dublin to continue my art practice, where I lived and worked until I migrated to Australia for a year.
It was not until my time in Australia that I began to fully appreciate and value the rugged beauty of my own native landscape.
This realisation has greatly influenced my transition from earlier figurative work into my landscape-inspired abstract paintings.
I have exhibited on a number of occasions since graduating, notably in the Royal Hibernian Academy, The Royal Ulster Academy and also multiple times in the Glebe Gallery in Co. Donegal.
I primarily work with resin, ink, paint and my paintings and sculptures are characterised by great movement and depth.
I want the viewers to feel as if they are moving through the landscape as they view my work. I build up layers upon layers of resin and paint; some parts of each layer are transparent and clear and some parts are opaque, so the finished painting ends up quite sculptural. The viewer can see deep into the painting through the different layers.
