Dhiiyaan Family

My work follows the threads of dhiiyaan-family, identity and belonging, stitching back together the fragmented, lost, torn, stolen, forgotten and removed. Finding threads of belonging to follow and repair a complex family history through researching archives and government records, healing family and genetic trauma, and building a beautiful resilience through photography, cyanotype, textile and embroidery and other stitch work.
Walking between worlds of the Blak and white, traditional and contemporary the living and passed/past, ancestry and spirits, I am a ghost bird that dances between worlds with fine silver threads to stitch and repair the torn and worn memories and stories.
Weaving new works from the lost, discarded, broken, abandoned and abused. I aim to create a healing beauty in narrative works that evoke and awaken long held memories and emotions.
