I had a ball working on this class project. I actually created two different final projects, but didn't post the first one because I was unhappy with the composition and how I inked it. However, that first attempt did provide clarity on what I wanted to do differently in the next version.
In the version above, I feel like I stayed true to my artistic "voice" (which is whimsical and based in cartooning) while also embracing what I learned in this wonderful course. I am really looking forward to doing more ink and pen illustrations now!
P.S. This second "final project" (done a week after I finished the course) feels even more true to my style. This course has completely ignited my passion for pen and ink. I am beyond thrilled. Thank you!

@fabiennebegonia Merci beaucoup! I'm still not sure that the way I rendered the leaves works all that well - perhaps they are too busy with so many highlights? Any suggestions are very welcome!
:-) Joana

Professeur PlusThank you so much for sharing your process and final images, Joana! Fantastic work! Your drawings work so well. You have used hatching and linework to build depth, create volume, and create engaging textures in the images. Your characterisation and style of drawing lend themselves beautifully to pen and ink. I hope you have fun continuing to work with this medium, and I look forward to seeing what you will create in the future!

Thank you so much for this comment and for taking the time to write feedback on all of my work! Your course was truly wonderful and it came at the perfect time for me. I had a colleague who once criticized my work saying "So many black lines..." which left me a bit scarred where it came to embracing ink as a medium. Seeing how you create atmosphere and a sense of place and story in your illustrations was what intrigued me to investigate your course and to give pen and ink another try. The way you imparted your wisdom and designed the final project made the process almost foolproof for us. I'm beyond grateful and I really am fired up to keep exploring the pen and ink medium. Thank you, Philip!:-)
