In the mornings, I would find my angels curled up tight while the devils were exactly as I'd left them.

The folded card, printed on kraft paper.

Artwork on the front of the card. These were also printed red on white.

Written message on the back of the card.

Inspired by my interest in letter-locking I designed my 2021 Christmas cards to work as a letter-card-artwork folded to not need an envelope. The red stickers reference red-wax seals used to seal traditional locked letters.

Each card is a unique monoprint created with Gel Press plates.
I began by designing a locked-letter that allowed room for an artwork printed with two small square Gel Press plates aligned horizontally.

The angel and devil were developed from my notebook works drawn from my imagination. The sketches inspired by an old Swedish wrought iron candle holder and plants, I think. Ways of thinking, drawing and paper cutting studied on the Domestika course I completed by Jesús Cisneros and studies of a book, The Decorative Arts of Sweden by Iona Plath have informed my characters.
