At the beginning of 2020, I created Women’s Work, a series of 12 cross stitched artworks that depict data about women in the workplace. Once the Covid-19 pandemic was in full swing, there were many media outlets reporting the unique impact the pandemic had on women, namely non-white women and mothers.
I decided to expand my work to specifically comment on the state of working women during the pandemic, this time using crochet to display data. My use of textile art is meant to add meaning to the data, symbolizing “women’s work” in both the content and the medium.
