Hi there!
Several years ago I took the course "Introduction to Infographics with Adobe Illustrator" by Paadín. But since 2022 I've been living in Germany and travelling a lot. Of all the cities I've visited, I especially like Düsseldorf. I really enjoy visiting this city, and I try to do it as often ass possible.
I decided to create a map of this city in the style of an infographic. The city is large, so the map doesn't cover the entire city, but it shows the main and well-known places that can be visited this year.
About Düsseldorf
The right gray circle with the name "Düsseldorf":
Düsseldorf, the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, is renowned for its fashion, art scene, and Königsallee, an elegant shopping street. The city has approximately 650,000 residents (as of 2024). Düsseldorf became well-known in the 19th century, establishing itself as a significant trade and cultural center due to its location on the Rhine River and economic development.
The left gray circle with the name "Altstadt":
The Old Town (Altstadt) in Düsseldorf offers numerous pubs and breweries. Known as the "longest bar in the world," it is famous for its many bars, breweries, and historic buildings. It serves as a vibrant center for nightlife and cultural events.
The places
For this map I chose eleven places:
1. Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof
The main train station and central transportation hub of the city offers national and international connections. This is one of my favorite places because, unlike the main city, the shops here are open even on Sundays.
2. Little Tokyo Düsseldorf
A district around Immermannstraße with many Japanese restaurants, shops, and cultural institutions.
3. Goethe-Museum Düsseldorf
A museum in Schloss Jägerhof dedicated to the life and works of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
4. Theatermuseum der Landeshauptstadt Düsseldorf
A museum documenting the history and development of theater in Düsseldorf and beyond.
5. Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf
A significant collection of modern art, distributed across two locations: K20 and K21.
6. Kunsthalle Düsseldorf
An exhibition hall for contemporary art that hosts rotating exhibitions of international artists.
7. Landtag Nordrhein-Westfalen
The North Rhine-Westphalia State Parliament in Düsseldorf is the legislature of the federal state and is located in a distinctive building on the Rhine, where political decisions and legislation take place.
8. Rheinturm
Rhine Tower. A television tower and landmark of Düsseldorf, offering an observation deck with views over the city and the Rhine.
9. Rheinkniebrücke
A distinctive bridge over the Rhine, connecting the districts of Bilk and Oberkassel.
10. Gehry Bauten
Gehry Bauten in Düsseldorf’s MedienHafen are three distinctive buildings by architect Frank Gehry. Known for their unconventional shapes and reflective surfaces, they are a striking example of modern architecture and a landmark in the city.
11. Königsallee
Königsallee (often called "Kö") in Düsseldorf is an elegant shopping street known for its luxury stores and exclusive boutiques. The boulevard runs alongside a picturesque canal and is a central spot for shopping and dining in the city.
The map
Here is the final version of the map, titled "DÜSSELDORF STADTFÜHRER 2024" (Düsseldorf City Guide 2024).
