As you can see, I stuck very closely to Daniel's example so I could study the details that go into creating an appealing pixel art scene. In doing so, I learned a lot about shading with a limited palette and designing the environments to create a consistent sense of scale. Contrast seems to be particularly important, as I notice that too much contrast and too many colors throughout a pixel environment can make it difficult to pick out the important parts of the scene.
The thing I'm most proud of is how my tree turned out. It's one of the few elements where I chose to diverge a little bit from Daniel's original design to see if I could channel a bit of what I'd learned into a design of my own. Since foliage is something I was having trouble with before taking this class, I'm happy to see I've made some progress. :-)
I look forward to taking what I've learned from the instructor and designing a scene of my own.
