For this teapot, I first rolled out a large slab of soft clay. I cut 2 large rectangles, 2 long almond-shaped pieces, one large almond-shaped piece, two long strips, and a shape that will eventually be the spout.
Using handmade texture tools, I stamped texture into the two large rectangular shaped pieces of clay.
Next, I joined the two rectangles at each end, curving them to form an almond shape from above.
I joined the two long almond-shaped pieces to the top of this form, squeezed them together and joined them at the top. This formed the shoulder of the teapot.
The two long strips of slab form the collar and the flange inside the collar, where the lid will eventually sit.
Next, I joined the two flat edges of the spout slab together and formed this slab into a curved spot. I then cut holes into one end of the teapot body and attached my spout.
From my remaining large slab of clay, I cut two small almond shaped slabs and a long strip. I joined these three pieces together to form the lid. I tested its fit in the teapot collar and adjusted as necessary and added a knob.
I then formed two small handles or lugs out of soft clay. These will eventually be the attachment points for a wire and wood handle. I attached these on the top of the teapot shoulder on either side of the collar.
Once the teapot had set up to a soft leather hard, I attached the remaining almond shaped slab to the bottom.
I let the teapot dry slowly, bisqued it, glazed it, and fired it to temperature.
I made a wood handle and drilled a hole through the length of it. I threaded a wire through the hole and bent the wire to my desired shape. I then threaded the wires through the lugs on the teapot and bent the ends closed.
