In the heart of Madrid a small architecture called by its own creators 'Casa Olivar' is born. Rescued from a state of ruin and a turbulent past, the aim is to give new life to the space, adding layers, rewriting its history and thus generating new memories.
The project was conceived as a living object in continuous transformation, in which different stages and uses can be accommodated. Within this framework, during the works the premises were transformed into an atypical exhibition space for the NoDo event; a silent event, behind closed doors, which invited a select group of Madrid designers to reflect on how we conceive light from darkness.
The step from conversion to housing is spontaneous and essential, rescuing those identifying features of the architecture and providing a new narrative. A "non-urban" space, a sensorial refuge to reconnect with ourselves, regulate our emotions and detach ourselves from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.
Characterised by spatial continuity and a warm minimalism, the intervention aims to elevate natural light and make room for the use of local artisanal materials, generating a close dialogue between light and materiality.
To generate a light and visual connection to achieve the greatest sensation of spatial amplitude and connect with the outside world. The natural light sources are thus visible from all points of the house, generating an atmosphere characterised by nuances of soft light and shadow.
The approach is to be honest with the materials used, respecting their authentic appearance and textures, favouring natural resources and local craftsmanship. A design with strong lines and pure geometries generates a delicate dialogue with a palette characterised by earth tones and textiles, the real protagonists of the space with their tones and transparencies.
